Impruneta is often the first stop on a Chianti trail for anyone heading south from Florence by bike, bus or car. Impruneta’s Terracotta manufacturing is many centuries old and has become the distinctive element of Tuscan architecture and landscape Worldwide. The terracotta tiles that adorn Brunelleschi’s famous Duomo in Florence were manufactured right here.

We recommend three Excursions from Impruneta

Florence: it’s close, easily accessible by bus, bike or car, and has enough art and culture to keep you busy for a year

San Gimignano: a beautiful drive through cypress-topped hills and vineyards ends at this preserved medieval town, complete with hidden alleys, Gothic towers and fine frescoes.

Walk to Piazza Buondelmont, the heart of the village with many local activities year round, enjoy the delicious “peposo all’imprunetina” a hearty stew originally invented by terracotta craftsmen. Visit the Basilica di Santa Maria all’ Impruneta that has drawn so many pilgrims over the centuries. During the grape harvest month, you can also enjoy the lively grape festival. Just 5km north-west of Impruneta, the Florence American Cemetery, the final resting place of over 4,000 American soldiers killed during the WW2 liberation of Italy.
